Nita’s Philosophy

Hi, I’m Nita Sharda. My pronouns are she/her/hers. As someone who holds a lot of privilege, I am committed to practicing in ways that stand against stigma, discrimination, and oppression, especially for folks living in marginalized bodies.

I am dedicated to creating an inclusive space for all clients. We need more than words to fight racism, intolerance, systematic oppression and inequality, and I, Nita Sharda, am committed to taking action in both my professional and personal life.

I strive to elevate and intentionally integrate diverse voices into the work that I do. I also embrace differences and diversity of identity, experience, and thought, for that is how I learn, grow and do better as a human being.

Some examples of how I practice in my business:

  • I prioritize paying for goods and services from BIPOC owned businesses

  • I invest in trainings from people of diverse identities

  • I am committed to the lifelong process of (un)learning. Along the way, I will make mistakes but will strive to name them and do better

  • And so much more…

The way I practice in my nutrition counselling and everyday life is guided by 4 pillars.

1. All foods fit – food neutrality
2. Every body is worthy of respect - weight inclusivity
3. You are the expert – patient centred
4. To help you relax -- food peace

All foods fit

I truly believe that all foods fit. The fancy term for this is ‘food neutrality’. This means that no food is inherently good or bad, healthy or unhealthy. It’s true, unless if you’re allergic, no one food can hold so much power.

Your cultural foods are not unhealthy. That birthday cake is not ‘a guilty pleasure’. While not all foods are nutritionally equal, they are morally equal. For many of my clients, myself included, this is a freeing concept. Food is no longer served with a side of guilt or shame. Food becomes joyful and pleasurable and so much more than nutrients.

Every body is worthy of respect

Contrary to what society tells us, all bodies are worthy of respect and love. I am committed to welcoming all bodies and identities, to creating a safer space than the oppressive, racist, ableist, homophophic, transphobic, healthist world we live in. I practice weight inclusivity, which means that I will never focus on your weight as an ‘outcome of health’ because your weight is not a behaviour nor is it a sole indicator of health.

I want to acknowledge that I am a thin bodied provider. And with this, comes many privileges. I will do my best to support you while being reminded of this.

You are the expert

This is the heartbeat of my practice. Yes, that’s right. I have a degree in nutrition, but nothing compares to your lived experience. You are the expert of your own body; you hold that wisdom. I am simply here to help you reclaim that wisdom and guide you through that journey in a supportive, non-judgmental way.

To help you relax - Food peace

We live in a complex time with information overload and more confusion around food choices. I have a deep love for agriculture and food production. With that, I will do my best to help you relax when making food choices for yourself and/or your family. It brings me joy if I can help bring you a little bit of peace around any food fears you may have.

I like to eat and enjoy everything.
